(Un)popular Opinion: How to Be a Good Audience Member

It's halfway through 2018, y'all! And this internet space hasn't been touched in a while. I was thinking I could start just putting my random thoughts and opinions out there, popular or otherwise. Just because. Maybe reading the totally random ramblings and maybe rants of some random girl can brighten your day a little, and if this is just like every other blog, oh well. If not for your entertainment, then for my own amusement. See? I'm rambling already. First, I want to talk about being a good audience member. What do you define as a good audience member? I'll tell you what I have a feeling it's not: ladies who sit behind you and talk/loud whisper during the ENTIRE opera, including the overture that you were excited to enjoy. They remark about all sorts of things throughout the production, and they also include little winces and things when something bad happens. I do appreciate that they seem to enjoy what they're watching, but why not let your fellow aud...

Another New Lease On Life

Image
What a life we have, people. I had a really fantastic weekend at a Christian performing arts camp I counsel for. Many of the counselors went out to eat after we were done cleaning up last night, and we had a lovely time. I think it was one of the better weekends I've had at camp, and camp is always wonderful. My drive home was another story. Just to preface, I'm fine. My car is fine; everything is completely fine. Here's what happened: I almost hit an opossum, and it was terrifying. I saw it trotting into the road from the right, and I swerved. I learned in driver's ed NOT to swerve, and NOT to slam on the brakes. I still know not to jerk the wheel and to instead ease gently out of danger without pressing down too hard on the brake pedal. But guess what? That's what I did. I slammed the brakes and jerked the wheel, because I REALLY didn't want to hit an innocent little animal. It spun me around, but I thankfully stayed on the road, and there was no inc...

Grassy Knoll

Disclaimer:  This is not a food post.   So I met this guy named Cody at a three-day honor band thing at a nearby university. He seemed super cool and nice, and we started to get to know each other.   Now we're the coolest hipster couple on the block. (lol just kidding. Cody's awesome, but I'm not trying to fulfill a stereotype or anything.)   We went on a picnic yesterday. It was so lovely, and I thought it would be fun to bring the camera along (even though I'm totally not a pro photographer). Following are a few choice shots from the outing.    neature Cody thought I was taking a picture of this robin when I was actually taking a picture of him... so then I had to really photograph the bird. Welcome to the blog, Codestool.

Granola Date Bars

I'm on quite the green smoothie kick. After having been out and about and eating out a LOT, I really felt the need to be "healthier" and eat/drink all of the greens . I've determined, however, that my current variety of green smoothie really tastes better without Greek yogurt (which is usually a source of protein in my smoothies, making them my breakfast) because it's so tangy and doesn't really fit with the grassiness of all the greens. So, without yogurt, my green smoothie is basically green juice (except I just blend them, I don't use a juicer, so they still have a whole bunch of fiber)... but ANYWAY, my point is that I'm gonna need more protein in breakfast because BREAKFAST IS IMPORTANT. I love toast, but almond butter is expensive and harder to come by in countryville, and my family likes mainstream peanut butter. That's all well and good, and I love it too, but I don't necessarily like to eat it every single day. I did have the tail...

Christmas Montage

My final project for digital graphics was another photo blog centered around a single theme. What else did I choose but Christmas? It only seemed fitting, since I've been so very much in the holiday spirit this year and the home is simply bursting with photo opportunities. Find the blog (26 photos) here: http://carlschristmas.blogspot.com/ . (carlschristmas is cheesy, yes, but catchy. The two words start with the same sound, they both have two syllables... cheesy but catchy.) Some of my favorites:                 Merry Christmas!
